The Calgary Zone is pleased to announce it will hold the 2015 Calgary Zone On-Snow on March 21st and March 22nd at Lake Louise Ski Resort. The annual On-Snow is a key component of the training and accreditation for our On-Snow instructors and assistant instructors.
The 2015 On-Snow is for existing On-Snow instructors and assistant instructors and those who would like to become one. The On-Snow group is a very important part of Calgary Zone’s education and training contingent. We are seeking strong skiers and boarders (for skiers, those with a CSIA skiing level of at least a strong 6) to join the group. Due to the ski/board skill competency requirements and because the zone covers most, but not all of the costs of the On-Snow, attendance requires the agreement of your patrol leader.
Please note that this is NOT a ski improvement session, but rather a program for On-Snow examiners (instructors) and assistant instructors to hone and improve their skills of assessment and On-Snow and toboggan training. Instructors and assistant instructors are expected to support Calgary Zone’s On-Snow program, including the annual training and testing of rookies and training and testing new and existing patrollers at their home hills.
It is a requirement to obtain and maintain one’s Instructor (I) and Assistant Instructor (AI) certification by attending the Instructor Certification Program (ICP) weekend class, which will be held later this year.
We have made arrangements for those attending the On-Snow Clinic to stay at the “Mountaineer Lodge” in the village of Lake Louise, at a slight discount (15%) off their normal room rate (www.mountaineerlodge.com) /855-556-8473 or 403-522-3844. The hotel offers a free continental breakfast in the morning , and has a nice sized hot-tub to enhance the après-ski experience. Accommodation and meal costs are the responsibility of individual patrollers but are often covered by individual patrols.
Attendees at the 2015 On-Snow Clinic at Lake Louise Ski Resort will be required to provide a payment of $50 payable to Calgary Zone. Again, this fee is often covered by home patrols.
A pre-On Snow clinic for select senior Instructors/examiners will be held on Saturday, March 14th at Lake Louise with a Level III CSIA Instructor.
